About Me

Therapeutic Relationship

Hello and thank you for exploring the possibility of working together! As a trauma-focused practitioner, I view my relationship with a client as both the foundation of our work together and as a tool for healing in itself. I approach work with clients from a place of warmth, curiosity, and humor, and believe in the importance of play and pleasure in the healing process. Like all relationships, safety in the therapeutic relationship requires time and tending. Our work moves at your pace and is guided by your individual needs, desires, and priorities. I strive to recognize the ways in which structural power imbalances—including along lines of social identities and between providers and clients—can impact the therapeutic relationship. I believe in the importance of creating a transparent relationship where these dynamics can be acknowledged and explored in order to engage in vulnerable work.

Trauma-Focused Therapy

While I enjoy working with clients on a variety of issues, I describe my orientation to therapeutic practice as trauma-focused. To me, this means bringing an awareness that our experiences shape our brains and bodies; the way we think, feel, and experience the world. I understand trauma as individual lived experiences that were painful, destabilizing, and overwhelming, as well as structural oppression faced by marginalized communities, and the impact of living in an often unjust world. Trauma-focused therapy can provide an opportunity to reconnect with our bodies, rewrite our stories, and deepen our experiences of connection. Whether you are working to heal from harmful experiences, reduce anxiety, or shift relational patterns that are no longer serving you, understanding the impact of our experiences and the wider context of our lives can be transformative.

My Background

Prior to becoming a clinical social worker, I held a variety of jobs where I was able to connect with individuals and communities, including working in higher education, community organizing, an afterschool program, and as a camp counselor. I’m passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ clients and on issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, sex and sexuality, and relationships. I am informed by harm reduction principles and strive to be kink and sex worker affirming in my practice. I embrace the neurodiversity paradigm, or the understanding that differences in the way people think, feel, communicate, and experience the world are natural and valuable aspects of human diversity.

Fun facts

Fun and friendship are some of the most important parts of my life! I love to swim, dance, and throw a good theme party (I have a disco ball permanently installed in my home!). Most of all, I like to spend time with my wife and our two beautiful cats.
