About Me
My Style
If you are already here looking for a therapist, you are taking a very brave step. Starting therapy can be daunting; my style is relaxed and informal and it is my job to help those in my office feel comfortable, accepted and seen. I am committed to helping people make their life work better for them, whatever that looks like. The process will be collaborative as you and I tailor the work to fit you and your needs.
My Practice
Currently, I see adults, adolescents, and varied family and relationship groupings. My approach is client centered and collaborative, tailoring each therapy to the individual or family culture. I am most interested in helping people improve their lives and harnessing their own strengths and resources. My techniques emphasize cultural competency and are informed by many theoretical foundations including psychodynamic theory, family systems theory, and cognitive-behavioral theory. I have particular interest and experience assisting individuals and families in negotiating the complex waters of transitional issues and developmental stages that occur in the eventual growth and change that people experience.
Identity
Identity is a concept that shifts and changes over the lifespan. There are an infinite number of varieties of identity. And this exploration, while exciting, can sometimes be a process that can benefit from a private space. I have a strength in working with people around sexual identity and gender identity and maintain an open and non-judgmental stance so as to allow for maximum exploration and growth, while holding space for the intersectionality of all one’s identities. I use a sex positive approach, and will affirm all relationship structures and Identity configurations. I identify and present white and gender non-conforming and from the start acknowledge my position of privilege and power that being a therapist holds and will always be willing to examine my impact on the therapy dynamic.
